Mary Beth Schafer, RPR – Founder

In 1983, Mary Beth established Smith Reporting in her hometown of Muncie, Indiana. Mary Beth is honored to have the only stenographic court reporting agency in Delaware County. She endeavors to remain loyal to her established clients while continuing to expand her client base by offering statewide coverage.

Mary Beth’s reputation for exceptional and accurate court reporting is well known statewide, and her dedication to upholding the integrity of the record is unparalleled. Mary Beth still very much enjoys reporting depositions, and stays active in the day-to-day supervision of the business.

Laura Yates – Office Manager / Production Manager

Laura has been a part of the team since 2013. She has managed production at Smith Reporting since 2015 and stepped into the Office Manager role in 2022, keeping the office running and coordinating with court reporters to make sure that every deposition goes off without a hitch.

Laura is responsible for all aspects of transcript/ exhibit production and delivery, including hard copy transcript booklets, electronic formats (ASCII, PDF, PTX), and our online repository. Laura is dedicated to the details, which she understands are of the utmost importance to all of our clients.

Laura graduated Magna Cum Laude from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Writing/ Linguistics. Her focus on, and interest in, language helps her to ensure that the written record is as accurate as possible.


Ben Bosworth – Scheduling Coordinator

Ben joined Smith Reporting in 2022 as our Scheduling Coordinator and has integrated seamlessly with the team. He makes sure that every deposition scheduling is an easy and pleasant process.

Ben graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science in Communications. In his free time, he enjoys camping, gaming, and golfing with friends and relaxing on his porch with his dog.

Melissa J. Pennamped, Notary Public

Melissa has been involved in court reporting since 1981, beginning in an administrative capacity with an Indianapolis court reporting firm, while she also attended court reporting school. In 1993, Melissa opened a freelance reporting agency, which she operated until partnering with Smith Reporting in 2012.

Melissa has reported in many areas of her field; however, expert and medical depositions interest her most. Her philosophy has always been professionalism with a heavy emphasis on respect and consideration of the needs of the members of the legal community, including her fellow court reporters. She is a proven resource who recognizes the importance of depositions in your case. Melissa provides accurate transcription and timely service– the clients’ requirements come first. She prides herself in providing the flexibility and efficiency today’s attorneys, paralegals, and assistants require.

Residing in the Geist Reservoir/Fishers area since 1985, Melissa enjoys all watersport activities, and especially spending time with her family and friends at the beach in South Carolina. Melissa and her husband are often seen beachcombing with their two black labs.
